There are 2 main research themes that form the underlying basis of all the works I make.

1) Structure In making a work, one main concern is the structure, both choreographical and dramaturgical, of the work. Closely linked to this question of structure is the phenomena of relationship: how entities/subjects come together, play themselves out and dissolve away.Much inspiration for the research on structure is taken from the visual arts (paintings, sculptures, photography and films), poetry and written literature, calligraphy, gardens (japanese gardens in particular) and nature. 2) The body The body as an organic instrument. When a body is stripped of its accessories- the social and cultural conditionings- it regains its ‘honesty’ and true dimension and weight. An “honest body” is a very powerful and touching instrument in a performance because it reveals so much of itself. It is an immense repository of past experiences, emotions, feelings, pains, fear and desires. Every cell holds memory that can be tapped on. I would even like to imagine that we can decipher the DNA encoded in our bodies through millions of years of evolution because the “honest body” does not differentiate between the good, the bad and the ugly for moral or aesthetic reasons. Such a body allows me to push it beyond the confines of its comfort zone, and therefore provides an inexhaustible source of inspiration and fascination for my interest and research.
